Agata Ferrari Bravo

Red Lab Gallery is pleased to announce Pathwork, a solo exhibition by Agata Ferrari Bravo, curated by Rossella Farinotti. The show offers a journey into the artist's imaginative and visionary universe, where found materials, memory, folklore, and storytelling intertwine to bring forth a pantheon of figures and presences suspended between fairy tale, myth, and ritual.
Agata Ferrari Bravo's practice stems from an instinctive and deeply sensitive relationship with matter. The artist collects, sews, unpicks, draws, paints, glues, cuts, and transforms forgotten objects and materials: old bedsheets, pages from school diaries, wrapping paper, worn fabrics, fragments of wood and ceramics, and small remnants of daily life. Every element is observed through its imperfection, the traces of time, cracks, and signs of wear that tell its story. It is precisely this fragility that makes it precious and open to a new existence.
The exhibition presents a new body of work, comprising both paintings and small-scale sculptures, that offers a nuanced overview of the artist's research. Through a process of continuous metamorphosis, seemingly marginal materials take center stage in a fantastical theater. Surfaces become populated with animals, human figures, and hybrid creatures; visionary architectures, houses, cloisters, pavilions, and carousels compose dense scenarios where every detail seems to belong to a tale that is both ancient and timeless.
The title Pathwork embodies a double suggestion: on one hand, it recalls patchwork, the technique that concretely runs through Agata Ferrari Bravo's research, based on assembling heterogeneous fabrics, materials, and fragments; on the other, it evokes the English word path. This linguistic play becomes a poetic statement: the artist's practice is a journey built through layers, juxtapositions, and continuous metamorphoses. Reclamation is not merely a material practice, but a poetic and symbolic gesture: gathering what has been abandoned, restoring dignity to what seemed exhausted, and recognizing the potential for a new form within every fragment. The artist thus constructs a personal, layered, and surprising universe, where Mediterranean influences, Slavic and Magyar imagery, Celtic traditions, and references to the Hellenic world coexist.
Pathwork is therefore a non-linear route, made of detours and discoveries, where each material can point toward a new direction and every artwork becomes a stop along a journey without a predetermined destination. What emerges is a fragile yet powerful universe, built through imagination and transformation, in an effort to exorcise what has been and preserve the wonder of what is yet to come.
